The Seismic and Telemetry group at SKK has established itself as a center of excellence within the Schlumberger organization for the engineering and production of multicomponent Seismic sensing and Seismic related wireline tools and systems.

The department consists of four groups: - Seismic, Telemetry, Systems Software Development, and Microseismic Monitoring. The groups work on the design and fabrication of seismic sensing tools used in the oilfield industry to monitor and control oil production and recovery. The tools and systems are used to provide the best seismic information in the industry as part of the leading edge oilfield services provided by Schlumberger.

Versatile Seismic Imaging tool (VSI)

VSIThe Seismic and Telemetry department is responsible for the production of the VSI – the Versatile Seismic Imaging tool. It is a multicomponent seismic tool capable of being deployed at 40 levels in a well, up to 175 degree and 25 KPSI. The downhole seismic array when deployed with 40 levels can record data from an array that is 4 times the height of the Eiffel Tower.

To enable high resolution data recording form such long arrays, the data must be transmitted to the surface using the EDTC telemetry cartridge.
The EDTC was developed at SKK and is capable of sending digital data to the surface at data rates of up to 1.2 mbps. The EDTC uses state of the art telemetry methods to achieve high data rates at high temperature and pressures. Data is sent to the surface recording system for storage and analysis.
For the Microseismic Monitoring Development the software is used to monitor extract and process microseismic events for HFM and PM systems. The software is developed to automate the process of picking events and processing data so that answer products can be delivered in the field in near real time.
