OAS is responsible for the design and development of oil logging tools, optic-based sensors and sensor technologies.

The team members come from varied backgrounds, and have experience in sensing technologies, optical electronics, physics, electronics, machinery and software. These team members all work together to develop tools in close communication with overseas research/technology centers and oilfields. With members from five different nationalities, OAS offers a truly global working environment.

In the early 1990s, OAS was the first in the world to succeed in obtaining spectrographic analyses from inside high temperature and high pressure oil wells.

Optical Fluid Analyzer (OFA) is the first commercialized optical tool from Schlumberger and has earned an excellent reputation from its customers. Since then, OAS has continued to develop optic-based tools in Japan.

Crystal Quartz Gauge is produced at SKK and is now being used by Schlumberger worldwide. This highly sensitive, robust gauge with a performance said to be the best in the industry, delivers extremely accurate and rapid measurements of wellbore pressures. Such accurate pressure information allows oilfield operators to calculate important factors such as the production potential of oil-in-place and enables them to conduct long-term monitoring of the field’s production performance.

Our next goal is to develop smaller sensors that offer greater performance and greater functionality.

- OFA (Optical Fluid Analyzer)

OFA uses optical spectrometry to determine the nature of the fluid in the flow line. A liquid cell differentiates between oil and water and also between different color oils.

- LFA (Live Fluid Analyzer)

LFA analyzes fluids as they flow through the MDT. The analyzer detects and measures dissolved methane in live fluids, which are pressurized reservoir fluid samples that remain in single phase. Oil types can be differentiated.

- CQG (Crystal Quartz Gauge)

CQG was commercialized by SKK and is now being used in Schlmberger throughout the world. This highly sensitive, robust gauge with a performance acclaimed to be the best in the industry, provides extremely accurate and rapid measurements of wellbore pressures. Such accurate pressure information allows oilfield operators to compute important factors such as the producibility of oil-in-place and enables them to carry out long-term monitoring of their field's performance.
